Barn to Yarn is a complete introduction to fiber farming. It starts before you own anything, walks through choosing your animals and caring for them well, and carries on through shearing, understanding fiber, and selling what you make. Nearly 50 lessons across 11 modules, built from over ten years of raising fiber animals here at Cedar Hill.

Planning your fiber farm. Hobby or business, budgeting and time, land and infrastructure, legal, zoning and permits.

Choosing your animals. Comparing fiber species, alpacas, Angora goats, Angora rabbits and sheep, and picking the right fit for your land and your climate.

Housing and care. Feeding by species, shelter and fencing, routine care and breeding, vet care, mixed herds and transport.

Shearing and fiber basics. Shearing tools or hiring out, skirting and evaluating a fleece, keeping vegetable matter out, fiber terms and types.
