Thinking about buying your first raw fleece, or wondering if the one you already have is worth processing?
In this live workshop, I'll show you exactly what I look for when evaluating a raw fleece and how to prepare it for scouring or a competition.
This applies to:
- Wool
- Angora
- Alpaca
- Mohair
We'll examine a fleece together, discuss what makes one worth buying, identify common defects, and prepare it for washing.
Whether you're standing at a fiber festival trying to choose your first fleece or have one sitting at home waiting to be processed, you'll leave knowing what to look for and what to do next.
You're welcome to follow along with your own fleece or simply watch and take notes.
You can ask questions throughout the workshop in the chat.
What you'll learn
I've been raising fiber animals and processing wool for over 10 years and have worked through hundreds of pounds of fiber.
During this workshop you'll learn how to:
- Choose a quality raw fleece
- Evaluate a fleece before purchasing or processing
- Preparing fleece for a competition
- Identify common defects and problem areas
- Skirt a fleece efficiently
- Prepare your fleece for scouring
By the end of the workshop, you'll feel confident choosing and preparing a raw fleece without wondering if you're making costly mistakes.
